Sienna Browne is a student working to attain a BFA at California State University where hopes to one day become an art teacher. This artists interest vary as she enjoys taking on different styles of art like surrealism, cubism, drawing and painting, and much more. She said she was a foist which is an individual that loves color because it draws you in to look at what’s in the art and ask yourself why you like it. She has worked on different ideas like food disorders, celebration, moving forward, and nuudles which is a word she came up with meaning a combination of a nude body and a noodle.
This art piece consists of black and white because it was drawn using lead. It has a lot of shading using lines to create the shades on the skin and on the bowl. It has a sort of negative or lazy tone to it because of the colors and a belly with rolls is the main thing that stands out to me. Aside from that is all the food that just seems to cluster up and overpower the belly.
This art piece was about food insecurities and she used her brother to show this as he was eating shirtless and in his underwear. They were thinking about how he was just relaxing and eating and although he didn’t really have such a big belly in real life she dramatized it to help demonstrate the theme of the piece. She faced her own struggle of food insecurities and eating disorders and so this piece had so much more depth to it that meets the eye. It demonstrates how eating sometimes makes people feel with food insecurities or eating disorders in a more visual way.
To me, it meant the way that food makes some people feel bad for eating or even how it gives some people comfort. The character in the drawing was just relaxing in their underwear eating food. It seemed like they had nothing on their mind except probably the television that they were watching and the food they were eating. It was a simple art piece but it had a lot to say with the color of the lead and the shading that was done. It gave a sad or unhappy mood but it also seemed chill and laid back. This reminds me of how I’ve felt sometimes both comfortable because I was just relaxing and eating while watching television or also feeling bad because I ate something that I probably didn’t really need to eat. I think this shows something very realistic but in a surreal way because of the food that was everywhere and seemed to overtake the individual in the drawing.
